Aleksey Muratov: Change the World Together is in favor of social inequality abolition

On Tuesday, January 17, Chairman of the Board of the International Public Movement Change the World Together Aleksey Muratov continued a series of conferences in Indonesia. This time the meeting was held in Kudus city (Central Java) in the Islamic Theological School which is headed by Kyai Mahmud.

"Kyai Mahmud is a quite respected person in Kudus, while he is the second-ranking local leader of Change the World Together movement and also one of the strongest ministers of Muslim religion and trustee of several orphanages and schools in Java. In one of these schools our meeting was held. And there were so many wishing to communicate with CWT leaders, that even extra chairs were not enough in the hall. And although some had to listen to the conference standing, no one left before the end of event," Aleksey Muratov said.

As Chairman of the Board of CWT noted, during the conference many problems of the modern financial world system were discussed, including the injustice of allocation of funds among the people of our planet. "As an example of social inequality I brought dry figures of statistics. Just imagine that the aggregate capital of the eight richest people in the world is $ 426 billion now. And the poorest half of humanity has the same amount, that is about 3.6 billion of people," Aleksey Muratov said.

Also, he noted that the economic crisis of recent years has only increased a financial gap between rich and poor. ʺThe economic crisis has made the world’s richest people richer and the poor – poorer. An overall capital of 793 richest people in the world has increased by 11% annually from $2.4 trillion to $5 trillion since the beginning of the crisis of 2009. But a share of the poorest half of humanity in the world’s wealth has decreased by almost four times. Approximately 10% of humanity live on less than $1.9 a day at the moment and one in nine is starving. Inequality traps hundreds of millions of people in poverty, it destroys our society and undermines human values,ʺ Aleksey Muratov said.

At the same time, Chairman of the Board of CWT expressed confidence that we should not wait for mercy of the powerful of this world and they would not change their attitude on this issue. ʺSuperrich are not just watching an increase of inequality in the world, but also they are nurturing it. Large corporations evade taxes to increase pay-offs to wealthy shareholders and slash workers’ wages and purchasing prices. Corporations’ tax evasion costs the poorest countries at least $100 billion a year. It would be enough to educate 124 million children and invest in health care to prevent 6 million child deaths,ʺ Aleksey Muratov said.

He also drew attention to the fact that a gradual transition to decentralized financial technologies based on blockchain can radically change such social injustice. That is why hundreds of new supporters join Change the World Together every day. ʺUniqueness of our movement is that we are independent of the global financial system, ‘superrich’ and their corporations. Change the World Together unites people from different countries, of different nationalities, of different mentality and different social status for the sake of the only one idea – to make the world a better place. Together, we will achieve this goal!ʺ Aleksey Muratov summed up.
